What to do in times of distress.

Image
Psalm 120:1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.       The word distress means extreme anxiety, sorrow or pain. I believe it is safe to say that we all have experienced in these days and times some form of distress. Extreme anxiety, sorrow or pain has almost become an everyday norm. The state of the world today is truly uncertain when you look to the world to bring you love, peace and joy. In fact it is the world that is the source of the distress that we feel.       The bible says that in this world there would be wars and rumors of wars. It says that kingdom shall rise against kingdom. It says that there will be earthquakes, famines and pestilences in different places in the world. All this is a true fact in this world. The bible also says that when you see all these things happening in the world today be not afraid for they are the beginning of sorrows. In other words they are the beginning of distress. It stands to reason if the ...

See For Yourself

Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man that trusts in him.      The word taste means to perceive or experience the flavor of something. In most cases taste is used to describe food or drink. This is what we say when we eat or drink something we like " Man that taste good." The distinctive taste of that food or drink is known as the flavor of that thing.        The bible says to taste and see that the Lord is good. One of the flavors of God is his holy goodness. To taste God's goodness means to experience his essential character. Essential means something that is absolutely necessary for something to be what it is.      The bible says that God is a Spirit. His Holy Spirit produces nine kinds of spiritual fruit. One of the fruits of the Spirit is goodness. The only way to experience God's true goodness is to allow the Holy Spirit to expose you to the true nature of God through Jesus Christ. Thi...

GOD PS 91

Image
PSALM 91:3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.      The bible calls covid-19 a noisome pestilence. Well what in the world is that? It is an evil calamity of life. As long as we live and breathe in this fallen world it is possible for these type of things to develop. This type of pestilence effects the entire world community . The door of fear that it opens up often times cannot be closed by man.       But thank the Lord that his wisdom is far beyond our wisdom. God knew these type of things would come upon the earth. This is why he put the cure for covid-19 and every other noisome pestilence in his word. But who has the time to proclaim God's word over what's going on in our busy lives today?       Wait a minute. Almost everything is closed! No job. No school. No bars and clubs. No sports and gambling. No restaurant dining. No dance. No gym. No church! Looks like we just may ...

Loose Lips

Luke 1:20  And, behold, thou shall be dumb, and not be able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believe not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.      This was part of the word of the Lord delivered to his servant Zacharias by the angel of the Lord Gabriel. The word that Gabriel delivered to Zacharias was in response to his prayer concerning a child that he and his wife Elisabeth desired.       They both were old and passed childbearing years. God chose them to be the parents of John the Baptist who was the man God chose to prepare his people to receive Christ. God sent Gabriel to Zacharias with the details of his answered prayer, but the man of God did not fully receive the word from Gabriel. There was some doubt in his response to God.      We must understand that some small doubt on our part does not cancel the plan of God for our life. God's plan for us will still c...

Relationship by Blood, Water and Spirit

Image
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.      The basic meaning of the word relationship means the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or persons are connected. It is the state of being connected. The way a connection is made will determine how strong and how long the connection will last. It seems like in the world of today long lasting meaningful relationships are a thing of the past. In this fast pace society casual selfish driven relationships seem to be the norm. Many are connected because of the selfishness in their nature. The sin in them connects them to the sin in someone else. The state of being connected for them is because of sin. Sin is the reason and the point of their connection.      The point of true connection with God is through the blood of his son Jesus Christ. Sin separates us from Go...

Weapons

Image
ISAIAH 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shall condemn.      A weapon is a thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage. The purpose of a weapon is to protect for the good or to kill and destroy for the evil. All weapons must be formed or crafted. They all must have a place of origin. Their are all kinds of weapons that have been formed against man since our fall in the garden of Eden. I have come to the conclusion that the most powerful of these weapons are weapons formed in the spirit and unleashed through the power of  the tongue.      A spiritual weapon is so powerful because it is designed to work from inside the soul before working it's way out into the natural body and surrounding area. To put it simply, spiritual weapons affect the soul, the body and any area near the body. Once the mind, will and emotions have been influen...

The Provocation

Image
Psalm 95:8 Harden not your heart as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: when your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.       The word provocation means action or speech that makes someone annoyed or angry, especially deliberately. It is an action word that means to cause a reaction in someone or from someone. Simply put it is the reaction to someones action.       Relationships are based on the reaction to someones action. All of our relationships with God have been based on the actions of God showing himself to us in certain ways. We then react to his action in the way we choose. We only have two ways to choose from, his way or our way. This is why the word says we are to study and imitate Jesus. Jesus walks in the ways of God. When we choose Jesus, we are choosing to walk in the ways of God leaving our old ways behind.      How do we know that we have given up on our ol...
