Relationship by Blood, Water and Spirit
Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The basic meaning of the word relationship means the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or persons are connected. It is the state of being connected. The way a connection is made will determine how strong and how long the connection will last. It seems like in the world of today long lasting meaningful relationships are a thing of the past. In this fast pace society casual selfish driven relationships seem to be the norm. Many are connected because of the selfishness in their nature. The sin in them connects them to the sin in someone else. The state of being connected for them is because of sin. Sin is the reason and the point of their connection.
The point of true connection with God is through the blood of his son Jesus Christ. Sin separates us from God. Only when the sin debt is paid in full can one be reconnected to the almighty God. The wages of sin is death. God requires the blood of a perfect sacrifice as payment for sin. Therefore when Jesus died for us, his perfect blood paid the price for all sin. This is why when we receive Jesus Christ we receive his blood. Only by his blood alone can we turn or repent from sin never to be ruled by sin again. There is no other way that sin can be washed form a person's heart but by the blood of Jesus. Sin is a part of our nature, therefore we can never get rid of our sins outside of Jesus Christ. No religion or program can cleanse us. Only the blood of Christ can make us clean enough to be in right relationship with God.
Baptism in water is a public expression of a believers new relationship with God. The believer surrenders his life in faith and obedience to God. By the blood of Christ the believer is cleansed from sin and is truly changed from an alien of the world to a citizen of the kingdom of the most high God. Baptism is witnessed by all those who are in heaven and those in the earth. Both heaven and earth confirm a believers connection to God. When you go down in the water it is like being buried and at the same time washed clean. Then coming up out of the water is like being reborn or resurrected into new life. I believe those of us who are baptized have a purpose that God wants us to complete while we live in this earth. Baptism to me is a public expression that you agree with God and his plan for your life.
The word says to repent, be baptized and then receive the Holy Spirit. This means your relationship with God is meant to be progressive. If you choose to repent and receive Jesus as Lord, then you are now connected to God the Father. If you obey and be baptized the gift of the Holy Spirit is now presented to you for you to choose to receive. This makes it clear that there are at least three outward signs of a persons new relationship and connection to God the Father.
The three signs of God relationship are:
1. Repentance. We turn away from a life outside and away from God. We turn from sin.
2. Baptism. We are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ as a public expression of our new life and connection to the kingdom of God.
3. The Holy Spirit. We receive the Holy Spirit and allow him to instruct us in this new way of God life. This includes having a new respect for God and our relationship with him. This new respect for God effects our behavior and relationships with other people.
Yes. It is as simple as 1, 2 and 3. The only major problem we have is with our flesh. This is why our relationship with the person of the Holy Spirit is so important. He trains us to subdue or flesh through test and trials. Yes it is the Holy Spirit that helps us to overcome by the blood of Christ and our testimony.
So know children of God that your true relationship to the Father is by the blood, the water and the Holy Spirit. These three are sure and can never be changed. These three are true and can never be removed from you. So be sure and stand true on your relationship with God. Most of all keep moving in your relationship with him. Just keep moving.
