The Five Kings of Fear
Joshua 10:8
And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.
In poker four kings is a very good hand. In the bible found in the book of Joshua chapter ten we find five kings who are a type and shadow of fear which is a very bad hand. The five kings were the kings of the Amorites. They were one of a group of people that God told the children of Israel to totally eject from the land of promise.
Amorite means mountaineer. Mountaineer is a person who lives in the mountain or inhabits a high place. In the Old Testament an Amorite is a symbolic type meant to represent pride and arrogance. Pride and arrogance is a by product of deep rooted fear. A spirit of fear is what causes a person to trust themselves only. It is a spirit of fear that boasts I am the greatest!
The five Amorite kings of Joshua chapter ten were kings of five cities. The name of each king combined with the name of each city tells a story of how fear once received begins a regressive work in a persons life. Fear slows down and eventually stops forward progression. If not addressed it can even cause a backward or reverse motion. The reverse motion is called back sliding.
Let's take a look at these guys and the cities they ruled. I will give you the meaning of the name of each Amorite king followed by the meaning of each city they ruled. Then we will put it all together in Jesus name and see what story is told within the story.
1st King : Adon-zedec His name means : Lord of justice.
Jerusalem The name of his city means : Founded in peace.
2nd King : Hoham His name means : Woe to them who are warm.
Hebron The name of his city means : Association
3rd King : Piram His name means : Wildly
Jarmuth The name of his city means : Height or high place
4th King : Japhia His name means : Splendid
Lachish The name of his city means : Impregnable
5th King : Debir His name means : A recess
Eglon The name of his city means : Circle
Now lets put it all together and see how it applies to our lives. God spoke to Joshua and told him to be of a good courage, fear not and to keep the words of God given to him by Moses in order to keep his way of divine destiny clear. They had taken all the cities God had given them to this point. But now the fake lord of justice who claimed to be peace stood before him. He represents the false peace that pride and arrogance brings.
But fear was at his root because he was afraid of the children of Israel. Fear opens you up to lukewarm associations with those you would not link up with normally. The lukewarm associations opens up a wildness at a high level. The wildness seems to be grand, magnificent or splendid and leads to a false sense of being impregnable. You won't yield to any force. Not even God.
The fear takes you to a place of recess or set back were all forward movement stops. You enter into a recess loop that is a circle that keeps you doing the same old things. You feel helpless because you keep getting the same old results. You are in a state of being backslidden.
What do we do to break this cycle or circle of fear? Have courage and act on the word of God till we get a break through. Joshua did not put his trust in himself. He gave himself over to a Spirit of power, love and a sound mind. That gave him courage to put his foot on the necks of the five Amorite kings and totally destroy them! We must not have a lukewarm association with fear. We must believe God and put our foot on the neck of fear to totally destroy him! IN JESUS NAME LET IT BE SO! AMEN!

All fear and doubt wants to be king in all the affairs of men. All fear is supported or held up by the devil. He is the joker that is behind all fear. This is why when God empowers us to do something he says from the start for us to fear not.
