Abide and I Say Abide

John 15:4-5
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same bring forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.

The subject of one of our past blogs was the key to an open heaven. Once the heavens have been opened we must stand in obedience to God's word to keep them open! In other words we must abide!
The word abide means to endure, remain, last, or reside with patience. The word abide can be applied to a place, condition, or a relationship. The word abide as it applies to our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ  means to remain and endure with patience.
Jesus gave us clear instruction on how to abide with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Abiding with Christ gives us the power to abide with the Father and Holy Spirit also because all three are one. The three are God. The bible in John chapter 15 gives us the instructions  on how to abide with God.
Let us look at some of the key points that Jesus was making in these verses

     1. Before you can abide, you first must be made clean.

The words that Jesus spoke came from the Father with the purpose of cleaning all those who would listen and do what was said. He was speaking to believers. Those that obeyed were made clean! The same applies for us today! If we say we are believers in Jesus Christ, then to keep our heavens open we must remain clean!

    2. Once the washing of the word has taken place, abide in Him and He will abide in you.

Now that you are being cleaned thru receiving the spoken word, remain in the clean place which is Him. Don't receive the word and go back to the ways of the world. He will now remain in the cleaned up place that is you. A partnership has been formed. No one wants to live in a dirty place. Stay clean as he is clean that the two may walk together!  For the heavens to remain open you must stay clean and walk with Him!

    3. You must understand the branch ( you ) cannot bear true fruit of itself, except it abide in the true vine Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the true vine and we are his branches. In the natural when a branch is taken from the vine it dies. It no longer bears fruit because its source of life is gone. The same is true in the world of the Spirit. If we take ourselves away from the true vine that is Jesus Christ our supply of true life is cut off. We can do nothing but mess up without Him! It is in Him that we live, move and have our being! It is by Him and not of ourselves that the heavens remain open.

   4. When you abide in Jesus Christ your power to ask is magnified.

Jesus said that "if you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you". You will boldly ask because of your relationship with Jesus Christ. You will receive because you have received his words and his words abide in you. His words are active in you. Nothing happens if you receive his words and don't use his words!

  5. When you abide in Jesus Christ, your patience is made stronger by his patience.

One of the fruits we will have when abiding in Christ is patience. Patience is a fruit produced by the Holy Spirit. Once the heavens are opened, we must wait on God to tell us what the next move will be. After all is said and done it is His plan that we must follow. Yes children of God we must not operate in our own timing. We must be patient in all things to fulfill His plans in the earth.

  6.  A greater love will you produced when you abide in Christ Jesus.

How is it possible to produce a greater love? Jesus Christ said "If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love". When we abide in Jesus Christ, his love and the love of the Father are open to us. Our love thru them is multiplied!

  7. When you abide in Jesus Christ, you have access to his joy.

When we remain in Jesus Christ, the words that he speaks to us remain. If his words remain in us, then our joy according to his words might be full. His words will drive back every negative word that tries to take our joy.

So let us all abide in Him and He in us. That we all may see His glorious fruits produced in us through us and around about us as we abide under an open heaven even in this world. So children of God endure and remain with patience. Set your heart to Jesus Christ to keep your focus. Stay blessed and keep moving forward in Jesus name!
